A slightly blurred, candid photo capturing a lighthearted moment. Itโ€™s a photo of myself mid-funny face with a lake in the background.

Editorโ€™s note: Originally written on February 21st, 2014, this post has been updated to reflect not just where I was then, but what Iโ€™ve learned since. And it will continue to evolve as I do.

To the curious hearts and reflective spirits, welcome. There is something meaningful about breaking from routine and saying yes to moments that feel simple but unexpected. Thatโ€™s exactly what happened back in college when a group of us got together and participated in a scavenger hunt.

What started as a simple game quickly became a chance to connect in ways I hadnโ€™t expected. With every silly challenge, we completed, laughter grew louder. And the more we laughed, the lighter the day felt. It is a reminder to live life fully and presently. To let go of self-judgement and embrace the moment.

Here is a list of some objectives we had:

  • Spontaneous dancing in front of stores

  • Fake proposal

  • Asking strangers if they wanted join in on a silly photo

  • Finding the cutest item

  • Doing a the catwalk

  • Creative group picture

  • The final one was to solve a riddle

For me, I'll always think of how fun that day was and how lucky enough to share the moment with such a great group of people. It was truly a fun, hilarious, joyful day.

Would I still recommend trying a scavenger hunt? Absolutely! They are a fantastic way to connect with others and challenge yourself to think creatively. That said, I would suggest a few things:

  • Be mindful of your environment as well as others in the area

  • Try not to be a disruption

  • Be respectful

  • And most importantly, stay present, because often the best memories come from the moments between the objectives, not just from the objectives themselves

If this post sparked a memory or made you reflect on your own adventures, Iโ€™d love to hear about it. Share your story in the comments, through socials, or take a moment to reflect personally. In the meantime, have a wonderful week! I look forward to seeing you back for the next post.

As a signature of my blog, Iโ€™d like to end this post with a suggestion to โ€œPass on kindness.โ€ Thereโ€™s no time like the present to Inspire Those Who Inspire You. Acts of kindness, no matter how big or small, can have a direct, positive impact on someone else. Go out there today and change someoneโ€™s life for the better!
